Governance

Confianza, security, and ethics for IrfanView deployments

This statement explains how IrfanView.io thinks about risk, transparency, and user responsibility. It is not a substitute for your corporate policy, vendor contracts, or local law.

Ethical usage statement

Image tools can enable harassment, non consensual sharing, or workplace surveillance misuse. Possession of a powerful viewer does not make those uses acceptable. Administrators should pair software allow lists with human policy training, especially in schools and newsrooms where subjects have heightened vulnerability.

When you batch process user contributed media, document retention limits and secure deletion expectations up front.

Transparency without mislabeling the software model

IrfanView is long standing freeware with a clear author and a public history of releases. It is not marketed here as open source, because public source availability is a separate claim that changes compliance review entirely. Transparency on this site instead means reproducible downloads, hash comparisons, signature checks, and change discipline inside your own org.

When you standardize a golden installer internally, store who approved it, when, and why. That audit trail matters more than marketing language.

No malware endorsement, and what a real incident looks like

This educational site does not ship binaries. If an executable exfiltrates data, persists unexpectedly, or diverges from published hashes, treat that binary as compromised regardless of brand name on the icon. Real incidents deserve incident response, not a FAQ paragraph.

Generic antivirus detections are not automatic proof of malice, but they are also not automatic proof of innocence. Investigate with evidence.

User responsibility disclaimer

You are responsible for backups before batch operations, for validating outputs, for reading installer screens on mirrors, and for maintaining endpoint protection suitable to your risk model. Authors of informational pages cannot accept liability for data loss, downtime, or security outcomes on machines they do not control.
